Born on 27 March 2006 in Potchefstroom, South Africa, Lhuan-dre Gilbert Pretorius is a prodigious talent who has rapidly ascended to the forefront of South African cricket. A dynamic left-handed wicketkeeper-batter, Pretorius was a standout in the elite school system, attending St Stithians College before moving to Cornwall Hill College to further his provincial prospects. Growing up with a deep passion for the game, he spent his youth honing his skills in backyard nets and local clubs, eventually becoming a centerpiece of the national Under-19 structure.

As a player, Pretorius is defined by his fearless, aggressive approach at the top of the order. He possesses a unique batting technique characterized by an open stance, precise footwork, and a distinctive wrist-whipping motion that draws comparisons to a field hockey player's execution. Known for his clean ball-striking, he has the rare ability to take on world-class bowlers from the very first delivery, often using a short-arm pull or powerful drives to dictate the pace of the game. Behind the stumps, his athletic wicketkeeping and calm composure in high-pressure situations make him a dual-threat asset for any team.

His domestic and franchise career skyrocketed in 2025 following a stellar showing as South Africa’s leading run-scorer at the 2024 ICC U19 World Cup. Representing the Titans in South African domestic cricket, he made a sensational First-Class debut with a century. In the franchise arena, he became a household name with the Paarl Royals in the SA20, where he scored a career-best 97 on debut and finished as the tournament's leading run-scorer in 2025, finishing with 397 runs in 12 games. His explosive T20 form earned him international recognition, leading to stints with Hampshire in the Vitality Blast and a selection by the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

Pretorius made a historic start to his international career in 2025, becoming one of the youngest South Africans to score a Test century on debut with 153 against Zimbabwe. He further solidified his place in the side with a strong 57 on his ODI debut against Pakistan. Subsequently, he was retained by RR ahead of the 2026 season. Lhuan holds a really bright future as this young Protea takes giant strides in the world of rapidly growing, explosive teenagers.
